Ronald McDonald House Charities has helped millions of families obtain shelter while their child was sick. For the past forty years they have created a large community that supports and helps one another. With that in mind a huge $100 million donation has been gifted to the Ronald McDonald House Charities from AbbVie, a biopharmaceutical company located in Chicago, not too far from the RMHC headquarters. RMHC has reported that this donation is the largest donation in their history.
The Vice President of AbbVie, Laura Schumacher has a 9-year-old son who needed medical treatment and for a short period of time they were gifted a room at one of the RMHC centers. Laura stated that "Having a child with a serious illness is one of the most difficult experiences anyone can face.” With this appreciation in mind, Laura spearheaded this donation and encouraged members of AbbVie and the community to donate.
AbbVie believes in the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities and they wanted to encourage others too as well. This donation turned out to be the single largest donation that the Ronald McDonald House Charities had recieved in history. AbbVie is proud to have been able to contribute much needed funds to enhance RMHC services, education programs, meals, and more.
